USSBA Indoor outlines colorguard class format

RSVPs being taken for Dec. 5th Kick-Off Event

The excitement is in the air! The time is now!

The US Scholastic Band Association is ready to launch a great new program for indoor percussion and colorguard, opening up an exceptional approach to the activity that will provide a wonderful experience for students, instructors, parents and supporters of youth in music education.

As the season quickly approaches, the team will hold an information Kick-Off event this Saturday, Dec. 5th, at noon at Immaculata High School in Somerville, N.J. Band directors and colorguard and percussion group coordinators are invited to the meeting that will provide all the details on this exciting new endeavor for the USSBA.

“The USSBA has a goal of serving our current bands for the entire school year, bringing the same type of quality, service and adjudication to programs in the winter as well as in the fall”, said Sean King, Director of the USSBA.  “This indoor colorguard circuit will ensure a student-centered, equitable method of evaluating and rewarding skill and achievement.  The USSBA Indoor competition has a wonderful combination of the best methods of established indoor circuits with the USSBA philosophical approach of fairness and a non-punitive atmosphere for all teams.”

The USSBA has created colorguard performance classes different from other winter circuits:

  • Class A for introductory/basic winterguards
  • Class AA for a basic/intermediate level of winterguards
  • Class AAA for winterguard programs with experience in intermediate/complex challenges

Percussion Education Director Dennis DeLucia recently outlined the classes and format for participating percussion groups. CLICK HERE to read more.

Both Brahan and DeLucia will be on hand at the Kick-Off event to outline the format, classes and USSBA philosophies in more detail.

“We have secured the best judges in the nation for the winter season - from the Kick-Off Show on Feb. 6th, to the USSBA Championships in Trenton, N.J. on April 17, said Beverly Brahan, Colorguard Education Director for USSBA Indoor. “Throughout this process, I have seen firsthand the commitment of the USSBA as a community of caring adults who work together to guarantee all students/teams succeed.”

The USSBA Indoor Circuit is designed to reward the young performers who spend hundreds of hours of blood, sweat and tears on gym floors, many of which we will never see, Brahan added.  They are the reason the USSBA continues to grow and reach for dreams that make lifelong memories!

Registration is now underway for USSBA Indoor. Scholastic colorguard and percussion groups are encouraged to review the regular season schedule and sign up while slots remain open.
