YEA! Board of Directors conducts Annual Meeting

New officers, audit and Strategic Plan are the focus

The Board of Directors of Youth Education in the Arts met on Saturday, Dec. 5th at the YEA! headquarters building in Allentown, Pa. Among the agenda items were a presentation of the 2010 budget and election of officers for Fiscal 2010.

Executive Committee Officers selected for 2010 are:

William Speakman, State College, Pa., Chairman of the Board

Andrew Silverstein, Pompton Lakes, N.J., Vice-Chairman

Edward DiCarlo, M.D., New York, N.Y., Secretary

Jack Payne, Allentown, Pa., Treasurer

The board reviewed 2009 financial and program performance and received the results of the 2008 independent audit in a presentation from a representative of the accounting firm of Buckno Lisicky & Company. The audit again presented a “clean opinion” of YEA’s financial practices. The board is happy to report that, due primarily to the generosity of alumni and friends in our 75th year, and an outstanding staff and volunteer corps, the organizations financial and programmatic health is good.

The meeting was followed by a Board/ Staff Planning session on Sunday, Dec. 6th, during which the draft 2010-2013 Strategic Plan was prepared. Staff will work during the next month to refine the plan and to assign specific programmatic and operational goals for the 2010 -2013 fiscal years. The completed plan will be presented to the Executive Committee in January and to the full board for approval in February. The Strategic Plan identifies the organizational priorities over a three-year period.

YEA! is governed by a nine person board of varied interests and experience from Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, New Jersey and Washington who take an active role in assuring the organization meets all legal, ethical, financial and programmatic goals both today and into the future. The board meets a minimum of six times per year, with additional committee meetings and phone conferences between full board gatherings.

YEA! board members take their responsibility seriously and YEA! is always looking for dedicated and qualified individuals who are willing to devote their time and talents to Board service. Board membership requires a minimum of three annual weekend trips to Allentown, Pa. Interested parties may contact Bill Speakman, Chairman, via e-mail at
