Championship series runs for six days in Allentown

On the heels of last week’s announcement of dates for the US Scholastic Band Association’s Fifth Annual National Championship, the team is excited to unveil the 2010 Northern States schedule, allowing directors optimum planning time for the new season.

The 2010 Northern States series will return to J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa., in late October through mid-November and will welcome the finest groups to perform in a six-day series, also known as the largest marching band competition in America.

Below are the dates and classes of bands slotted to perform in Northern States:

  • Saturday, Oct. 30 - Full day Open Class
  • Sunday, Oct.  31 - Full day Open Class
  • Saturday, Nov. 6 - Half day A Class
  • Sunday, Nov. 7 - Full day A Class
  • Saturday, Nov. 13 - Full day A Class
  • Sunday, November 14 - Full day A Class

Specific groups and classes will be announced in the New Year. Registration for these events will begin in late January.

This past fall during the five-day Northern States series, 160 high school bands from New England and the Mid-Atlantic region competed for titles in 15 Group and Class divisions, with nearly 15,000 students performing before audiences of enthusiastic band parents and boosters.

“The Northern States Championships and J. Birney Crum have become a wonderful tradition that we are honored to uphold again in 2010,” said Sean King, Director of the USSBA.
