2009 Trumpets

Horn players and percussionists can audition for The Cadets this weekend in Woodstown, N.J.

The Cadets return this weekend for their first camp in 2010 as the corps continues the audition process for brass and percussion players and takes on more than three minutes of show music, plus plenty of parade and encore tunes.

The break has been long, according to Assistant Director Justin Heimbecker, recalling the cancelled December camp due to a monster snow storm that hit the East Coast. But the staff was diligent in keeping in touch with existing applicants and prior members to keep them informed and engaged, he added.

“Seven weeks is a long time to go without a camp or rehearsal,” Heimbecker said. “It’s definitely time to get everyone back together and there is plenty on the schedule for The Cadets to get done!”

The Cadets will learn more than three minutes of show music this weekend, according to Cadets Director George Hopkins. The brass line will complete all of Procession of Nobles and Children’s Dance while the Percussion Section will learn about half of Children’s Dance.

In addition, parade and encore pieces such as Thriller and Bandstand Boogie will be taught.

The weekend will be very special for returning 2009 Holy Name Cadets who will be given with their Member Medallions during a special presentation on Saturday afternoon.  Started in 2009 as part of the corps’ 75th Anniversary, members will now receive a keepsake Medallion signifying their participation in the corps. In 2010 and beyond, members will be presented the special Medallion prior to Spring Training and wear their piece within their uniform when they perform.
