Colorguard and percussion units in the Mid-Atlantic Region are in for a new era of Indoor as the US Scholastic Band Association readies for the kick off of its inaugural season on Feb. 6th!

Already, more than 55 groups have registered to participate in the 11-week season that runs through the winter, culminating with the first ever USSBA Indoor Championship on April 17th in Trenton, N.J. Every event will give students a chance to perform and grow as the USSBA brings its student-oriented philosophies from the fall marching band season onto the gymnasium floor.

“The buzz is increasing every day surrounding this inaugural season for USSBA Indoor,” said Sean King, Director of the USSBA.  “The amount of interest from all over the USSBA is more than we had expected.”

Line-ups, step off times and judge assignments have been announced for some events and band directors and unit instructors can still register their groups to be a part of history in the making – the very first USSBA Indoor season!

WHY GET INVOLVED?

Simply put, the USSBA puts students first. The experience they gain when performing should be a positive and rewarding and since 1988, the USSBA has stayed committed to that mission. Bringing those ideals to Indoor is just the start. Using A-AA-AAA classifications, USSBA Indoor is ideal for new programs where groups can learn, grow and flourish.

Another feature that makes the USSBA a superior showcase for units in the fall and winter is the access for units to a national pool of adjudicators who endorse a penalty-free and positive risk-taking environment and are committed to the highest level of quality and impartiality.

“With them will come a promise to judge and NOT pass judgment. We are here to support and not condemn,” said George Hopkins, CEO of Youth Education in the Arts. “We are here to assist and not penalize. We are here to help you, as you use music to teach life skills to your students, soon to be adults.”

USSBA Indoor season will be for scholastic groups exclusively, however collegiate and independent units can participate in as many events as they would like for performance opportunities and recruiting.

The first ever USSBA Indoor Championship on April 17th is filling up fast, so grab the chance to be a part of the excitement. The Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, N.J., will host the final season-ender. With nearly 40 dance, colorguard and percussion groups already signed up, it’s going to be a day of emotion, energy and fun.
