Cadets will add to repertoire at weekend camp

Samuel Barber's School for Scandal folds into mix

The Cadets will learn Samuel Barber’s School for Scandal this weekend as the hornline weaves in three additional minutes of music to their summer program. By Sunday, the corps will have nearly seven minutes of show repertoire under their belts!

The corps gathers Jan. 29-31st at Woodstown High School in Woodstown, N.J., for their third camp. New brass applicants who still might like to audition for a place in the hornline are encouraged to attend.

Even with the loss of one camp in December due to snow, The Cadets are successfully making up for lost time, having already learned more than four minutes of show music - Procession of the Nobles composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and  Children’s Dance from Merry Mount composed by Howard Hanson.

Also on the schedule for the weekend are marching technique rehearsals and work on parade and encore tunes, such as Bandstand Boogie, A Mighty Fortress, and long-time Cadets’ favorites such as Rocky Point Holiday, Philip Bliss and Easter Ballad

It’s not too late for interested brass musicians to audition for the hornline, according to Assistant Director Justin Heimbecker. Simply register for camp online before midnight on Thursday, or walk-up and register on Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
