Yamaha launches Young Performing Artists competition

Musicians encouraged to submit their application by March 15

Yamaha's Young Artists in 2010. Outstanding musicians are encouraged to apply in 2011 by March 15.


Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, recently announced its Yamaha Young Performing Artist competition that recognizes outstanding young musicians from the world of classical, jazz and contemporary music. 

Musicians between the ages of 16 and 21 are invited to audition for the once in a lifetime opportunity to be invited to attend an all expense paid weekend awards ceremony at the Music for All™ Summer Symposium, receive a once in a lifetime performance opportunity in front of thousands of students with national press coverage, a recording and photos of the live performance, and participate in workshops designed to launch a professional music career.

Winners also will enjoy many of the privileges of a Yamaha artist, including services and communication with Yamaha's artist relations department.

The overall winner (chosen at the Summer Symposium) will also receive $5,000 in retail credit towards a professional model Yamaha instrument.

Qualifications to audition: 

• Must be between the ages of 16 and 21 at the time of the application.

• Must be nominated by a university or private teacher, conductor, director, or professional performer, music dealer, or community musical leader. (Nominators may not be related in any way to the nominee.)

• Must have attained a high level of musical achievement in solo appearances, honors, scholarships, and ensemble performances.

• Must have the personal qualities compatible with the high musical standards necessary for acceptance into the program. 

Audition submissions must be postmarked by midnight on March 15.
