2010 USSBA fall registration pushed to Wednesday

Member bands first to reserve spaces for marching events

The USSBA will release the fall marching band schedule on Wednesday, March 3rd. Member bands will have first opportunity to register for events.

Some say membership has its privileges, and in the US Scholastic Band Association it’s the truth as 2009-2010 member bands will be invited to register starting March 3rd for participation in the upcoming fall marching band season, guaranteeing performances at some of the most popular local, Regional and Championship events.

“Member bands are the backbone of our organization,” said USSBA Director Sean King in announcing the release of the fall schedule.  “We’re always looking for ways to provide additional benefits to our most loyal bands, and by allowing them first access to register for the events in which they would like to participate seemed to be a perfect opportunity to reward that loyalty.”

Open registration for all bands will begin on March 15th. Last week, the USSBA announced registration would begin today, but weather-related issues prompted the date to be pushed back to Wednesday, March 3rd, King said. With schools being closed due to last week's snow storm, communication with some bands has been hampered.

“We’re coming down the home stretch in adding shows and finalizing the schedule.  We have almost a 100 percent return rate for events, along with a great new selection of other dates that boost our numbers from 85 to nearly 100 local events,” said Tara-Lee Bryant, Local Event Coordinator. “No matter where you’re located in the regions served by the USSBA, there will be a great local show within driving distance.  We hope you’ll choose to support these host bands as they put on a memorable event for you, your band and your parents.”

A few 2010 events have already been announced, including the USSBA Northern States Championships in Allentown on Oct. 30-31st (Open) and Nov. 6-7th and Nov. 13-14th  (Class A), the USSBA National Championships in Annapolis on Nov. 5-7th , along with the DeMoulin Challenges to be held at Rutgers University on Oct. 16th and the University of Chattanooga-Tennessee on Oct. 2nd

A focus on State Championship events has taken center stage for the USSBA team as the Maryland/Delaware Championships have been announced for Oct. 16th to be held at Towson University.  In addition, the Pennsylvania State Championships will return to Hersheypark Stadium on Oct. 23rd after a one-year relocation to the eastern side of the state.

Final details on the USSBA Virginia on Oct. 30th and New England State Championships on Oct. 23rd are pending, but a return to Woodforest Bank Stadium for the Texas State Championships on Oct. 30th has been confirmed.  The USSBA also launches a Tennessee State Championship for the first time ever to be held at Carson Newman Stadium in Jefferson City.

The preliminary Texas schedule was announced at the Texas Music Educators Association conference two weeks ago, but suffice it to say the popularity of the USSBA continues to expand as 15 events now fill the calendar for the Saturdays of Sept. 25th, Oct. 2nd, Oct. 9th, and Championship Saturday on Oct. 30th

The Southern States Championships returns to Finley Stadium on the campus of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday, Nov. 6th as the USSBA continues to expand its service base throughout the Mid-South.  Bands from Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, the Carolinas and especially Alabama and Mississippi are encouraged to join us as we create the only multi-state season-ending Championships for programs throughout the region.

The USSBA’s commitment to Long Island has taken its first steps with two shows and a possible third local event and the New York State Championships to be held in the area once home to a full season schedule.

“With the 2010 schedule, we have been able to take the next step in many areas toward its goal of providing a complete season of events for all of its bands within a comfortable and affordable travel radius.  When the USSBA goal is eventually realized, bands will be able to participate in a full season of local events with a Regional or State Championship event to complete their entire season.”

Watch for the release of the entire 2010 USSBA Fall Marching Band Schedule on March 1st, and for registrations to begin for member bands that same day, and registration for all bands beginning on March 15th.
