Lehigh Valley Youth Drumline & Colorguard preps for summer

Rehearsals held at South Mountain Middle School on Tuesdays

The Lehigh Valley Youth Drumline and Colorguard began rehearsals in March and is busily preparing for an exciting summer of local performances. Some positions, particularly in the colorguard, remain open and Youth Education in the Arts is inviting elementary and middle school students to attend weekly rehearsals if they are interested in joining.

This FREE program teaches students in fourth through eighth grades how to play percussion instruments or spin flags as part of the colorguard. The group is gearing up for its summer performance schedule which begins very soon!

Rehearsals for the drumline and colorguard are held at South Mountain Middle School on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, and all drum and guard equipment is provided.

Entering its third year of providing Lehigh Valley youth a way to play and perform, the Lehigh Valley Youth Drumline provides students with talented and qualified instructors teaching novice drummers and colorguard members the basics of becoming a performing marching unit. In the summertime, the group performs in local parades and community events.

The Lehigh Valley Youth Drumline is part of the Urban Arts Centre, a program of Youth Education in the Arts, based in Allentown. YEA!’s Urban Arts Centre programs are made possible through generous donations within the community and from national organizations, including The Allentown Weed & Seed Coalition, The Century Fund, The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Yamaha Corporation of America, Remo Incorporated, The Avedis Zildjian Company, Inc., and Vic Firth Inc.

Youth Education in the Arts is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides programs that provides musicians and performers the opportunity to participate and perform in some of the most prestigious events in the country. YEA! was founded in 1990 and includes national programs such as nine-time World Champion Cadets Drum Corps, the US Scholastic Band Association, instructional/educational clinics and programs, and the Urban Arts Center that provides performance opportunities to students in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania.
