USSBA proudly announces the 2010 National Championship bands

Over 100 groups to participate in three-day Annapolis, Md., event

The USSBA announces the nearly 100 bands to perform in the spectacular Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The November event will last three days.

The US Scholastic Band Association is proud to recognize the line-up for the 2010 USSBA National Championships as the event returns for its fifth anniversary to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on the campus of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. on Nov. 5-7.

“A record number of schools registered for this year’s event as we prepare for the grandest National Championship event in our history,” said Sean King, Director of the USSBA, in announcing the bands participating in the show.

“The USSBA team has done a great deal of work in identifying some of the best programs in the nation to participate in the Championship,” added Tim Gallagher, Event Manager for the USSBA.  “We have a special challenge with only 100 performance times in the three-day schedule. As of June 1, only three performance opportunities remain, however we are still accepting applications online at”

The tentative schedule for the USSBA National Championships has the event beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, with the Group I Championships.  After an Awards Ceremony, the Group II Championships will continue beginning at approximately 2 p.m. and conclude with a special performance by the Towson University Marching Band and the Awards Ceremony at 8 p.m.

The Championship continues Saturday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. with the Group IV Championships and will continue until 4 p.m. with the Group IV Awards Ceremony. The Group V Championships will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the Awards Ceremony concluding the day’s events.  A special performance by the West Chester University Golden Ram Marching Band will provide for a great cap to the National Championship events on Nov. 6.

Sunday’s USSBA National Championships will begin at noon with the Group III Championships.  Roughly 30 bands are already registered for the Group III competition which will end approximately at 5 p.m.  Lastly, the 2010 Championships conclude at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening with the Group VI competition, putting a fitting cap to the end of the year’s Championships in Annapolis.

There may be slight adjustments to this advanced schedule; however the USSBA provides a tentative preview of the schedule so band directors and parents can make their arrangements for the biggest show of the year.

The USSBA National Championship is a Finals-only event. Seedings will be determined by scores achieved during the USSBA season (prior to Oct. 24). Any school not previously participating in a USSBA event will be subsequently inserted into the appropriate size grouping by a random draw. Awards will be presented by group size for both overall rankings and captions.
