The Cadets battery before performing for the community of Johnstown, Pa., on Thursday night. Below, Cadets Experience band students (in yellow shirts) spent an interactive day with the corps during the first clinic of the season.

The Cadets Thursday ‘to do’ list:

  1. Show their appreciation.
  2. Give back to the community
  3. Connect with area band students and have a great time!

Certainly not your every-day schedule for the corps at Spring Training, but yesterday the sentiment came straight from the heart. It was a day to show their gratitude to the community of Johnstown, Pa.

Hundreds of local residents enjoyed Community Appreciation Night held at Richland High School where The Cadets performed by section, and their summer production, Toy Souldier.

“We can’t say enough about the community of Johnstown. This is our third year holding Spring Training here and, just as in years’ past, everyone is always so welcoming,” said Justin Heimbecker, Assistant Director of the Cadets. “The Richland School District and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown do everything possible to accommodate the corps. When we leave next week, we depart with fond memories!”

The corps also held their first Cadets Experience Camp with local band students on Thursday. Nearly 70 students attended the clinic, learning and playing alongside the corps, then performing in unison during the community event that followed. VIEW THE CADETS EXPERIENCE CLINIC SCHEDULE.

The Cadets depart Johnstown, Pa., on June 17 when they will travel to Allentown, Pa., for rehearsals and their first show, Drum Corps – An American Tradition at J. Birney Crum Stadium.
