YEA! and The Cadets mourn the loss of a great friend

Cadets will dedicate tonight's performance to Susan Erben

Youth Education in the Arts is sad to inform our friends, Cadets' alumni, and our fans that Susan Erben, the Director of Development for YEA! and The Cadets, lost her life in a vehicle accident on Thursday evening, June 24, near the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border.  null

Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.

George Hopkins, CEO of Youth Education in the Arts, made the following statement from The Cadets' tour outside Normal, Ill.

"YEA! is grief stricken at the loss of Susan. Sue was a key member of our team, and as the director of fundraising, she has supported a huge increase in giving over the past 15 months. A Cadet's alumnus, she loved the corps, the students, the mission - she loved making a difference and we loved having her here as part of the team,” Hopkins said.

"On a personal level, Susan and I have been friends for 30-years. We dated on and off and Sue was crucial to the beginning days of my time with The Cadets.  She had returned last to support the cause of magnificence for youth."

"We were friends. We shared our dreams, our frustrations and our hopes. My heart goes out to her sister Diane and the love of her life, Jim Dugan, and to all who knew and loved Susan. She was... good people. The very, very best."

Youth Education in the Arts will hold Susan's memory for many years to come and this evening, The Cadets will dedicate their performance in Normal, Ill., to Sue's memory.

Despite this tragedy, The Cadets and YEA! staff find themselves in the middle of the busy summer season.  And true to Susan's memory and work ethic, operations will continue on the road as well as in preparation for events in the coming two weeks.

The YEA! and Cadets family will share details of final arrangements at the time they become available from the family.
