Heat wave doesn't deter Chambersburg drum corps fans!

The record breaking temperatures may have kept many on the East Coast indoors Tuesday, but it certainly didn’t stop fans from making the trip to Chambersburg High School in Chambersburg, Pa., to cheer on seven talented drum corps who put on one memorable show!

Youth Education in the Arts, in cooperation with Drum Corps International, pushed the start time of the show back by 30 minutes to allow for the sun to set and the 100-plus temperatures to drop. Then, with a near capacity crowd to perform for, Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, Boston Crusaders, Crossmen, Jersey Surf and the Raiders closed out a dazzling, patriotic Fourth of July Weekend at Drum Corps – An American Tradition.

“Pushing the show back was absolutely the right thing to do,” said Sean King, Director of the US Scholastic Band Association, a program of YEA! that coordinates the non-profit’s five drum corps events this summer. “While it was still very warm and sticky after the sun went down, heat related issues were kept to a minimum and the evening went quite smoothly.”

Misting tents, water available at every turn, ice cream at the front gate and squirt guns! You name it; it was available to help keep guests cool!

Presented in part by McDonalds of Franklin County and Delamor Enterprises, Drum Corps – An American Tradition was also a community affair! The Chambersburg High School Marching Band, co-sponsoring the event with YEA!, was in full force during their annual fundraiser to benefit the band!

WHAG-TV, based nearby Hagerstown, Md., covered the event.

YEA! has two more events coming this summer, both in early August.
