MENC and YEA! form strategic partnership

Two organizations unite to create programs, initiatives

RESTON, VA (August 4, 2010) – Youth Education in the Arts, Inc. (YEA!) and MENC: The National Association for Music Education announced the formation of an alliance for educational and professional development. As strategic partners, YEA and MENC will work together on programs of national significance to music education, including new and existing programs of both organizations.

As part of the agreement, MENC is designated an official educational partner of YEA! and YEA!  is designated an official strategic partner of MENC. Programs and initiatives the two organizations will jointly undertake may include festivals, competitions, awards, and scholarships.

George Hopkins, CEO of YEA!, said about the partnership, “We are excited to be joining with MENC to bring our extensive line-up of events, programs and offerings for young people to help teach life lessons through music. We all know the importance of music in young people’s lives, and together with partnerships like the MENC/YEA! alliance we are able to create a powerful platform to bring even more attention and support to the fantastic music educators that impact the future with every student they reach.”

“MENC has historically been an umbrella organization for all aspects of music education,” said MENC Executive Director Michael A Butera.  “Recently, we’ve chosen to further that inclusiveness by reaching out to other existing music organizations, establishing new strategic partnerships that will enhance service to our members. We’re pleased to collaborate with YEA! on future initiatives that will be of great value and interest to both music teachers and their students.”
