USSBA grows by welcoming two new team members

Swengler, Jackson to fill Band Relations roles

Jonathan Swengler, Greg Jackson and Tara-Lee Bryant point out the YOU in the USSBA. Jon and Greg join the team this month. 

The US Scholastic Band Association is thrilled to welcome two new faces to the team with the addition of Jonathan Swengler of Amherst, Mass., and Gregory Jackson of Baltimore, Md. 

Swengler and Jackson will both serve as USSBA Band Relations representatives. Swengler begins this week while Jackson will come on board later this month. 

Swengler is a May 2010 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in education.  During his time at UMass Amherst, Swengler served as an Admissions Representative. He also has experience as a substitute teacher and an America Reads/Counts tutor. 

Marching arts experience for Swengler includes serving as Drum Major of the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band from 2008-2010, staff member of the George Parks Drum Major Academy, drill designer and instructor of the University of Massachusetts Colorguard, member of the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps, Drum Major of the DCA Syracuse Brigadiers, drill instructor of the Capiague High School band and drum major of the Huntingdon Blue Devil Marching Band in Long Island, N.Y. 

Jackson is a 2006 graduate of Towson University majoring in music education. He attended Dulaney High School, graduating on 2001. Jackson was a member of the Towson University Tiger Marching Band and also assists with the group’s marketing initiatives. He also brings photography experience into the USSBA fold having worked for Galeone Photography from 2007 to 2008.

"We're looking forward to bringing Jon and Greg into the fold as we prepare for the 2010 season that's just around the corner," said Sean King, Director of the USSBA. "With their strong background in the marching arts, we know they will enhance many of the philosophies of the USSBA."
