Growth spurs class additions for Xcape Dance Company

Tots, South Mountain classes added as interest swells

Responding to a tremendous surge in growth, Xcape Dance Company is adding two additional classes to its downtown gallery schedule, and launching an afterschool class at South Mountain Middle School in Allentown beginning Sept. 24.

Xcape 250The company has grown by more than 125 members since July, according to Eric Kitchenman, Director of the Urban Arts Center, a program of Youth Education in the Arts located at 601 W. Hamilton Street in Allentown.  

“The interest in recent months has our gallery bursting at the seams on Tuesdays,” said Kitchenman. “So much so, we have added classes based on skill level and, in the coming weeks, a new satellite class at one of our local middle schools.”  

Expanding the age to participate has also had an effect, he said, noting the company now accepts students as young as 6-years of age as part of the newly added Tot Class. 

Still entirely free to Allentown residents aged 6-22, Xcape’s new schedule begins Tuesday, Sept. 7: 

Tuesdays
5-6 p.m. - Tots
6-7 p.m. - Beginner
7-8 p.m. - Intermediate
The Musselman Arts Center

Fridays
5–7 p.m. - Intermediate
The Musselman Arts Center
601 W. Hamilton Street, Allentown
(Lower Gallery Entrance) 

Fridays (Beginning Sept. 24)
3:15–4:15 p.m. – All skill levels (Middle School students)
South Mountain Middle School, Allentown

Since 2007, Xcape Dance Company has provided Allentown young people an avenue to express themselves through many forms of dance while, at the same time, teaching teamwork, coping skills, self discipline and encouraging positive life skills that will help carry them into adulthood. Through the instruction of veteran and talented teacher Dominick Boyd and his staff, the company’s performance styles include hip-hop, and jazz and lyrical pop.

Xcape Dance Company performs at various venues in and around the Lehigh Valley throughout the year. The program is completely FREE to kids of the Allentown School District who want to work hard, dance their hearts out, and prepare themselves for a prosperous, productive and joyous life! 

Want to join? Here’s how to get started:

  • Fill out the required application and demographic information, signed by your parent or guardian if you’re a minor.
  • Attend the skill level class you feel appropriate. Once you attend, our talented dance staff will help assess for the perfect fit to your abilities.
  • Make a commitment to work hard, make good choices and, most of all, HAVE FUN!
