USSBA bands shine this weekend at headline and local events

Award sheets posted for full weekend of USSBA events

Rutgers University Stadium hosted the DeMoulin Challenge on Saturday. Below, the West Orange High School Colorguard prepares to enter the field at the USSBA Central New Jersey Regional at the College of New Jersey on Sunday.

It was a weekend of many firsts for US Scholastic Band Association bands as the team dived into new show formats, spectacular first-time venues and more groups were welcomed into the family!

Nearly 280 bands performed in 18 events between Saturday and Sunday, several of which took us to exciting new places! We headed to Rutgers University for the first time in the Association’s 22-year history where 24 bands took part in the DeMoulin Challenge, a preliminary/finals format event that adds a new dynamic and spirit to our marching band shows.

Saturday also brought 28 bands from across Delaware and Maryland to the gorgeous campus of Towson University in Towson, Md., for their USSBA State Championship. The USSBA returned to the Towson stadium for the second time with fond memories, but 2010 marks the first season to hold the state title at this spectacular and memorable venue.

Heading further down Interstate 95, the USSBA stopped in Virginia on Saturday for two headline events – the first ever USSBA Northern Virginia Showcase in Sterling, Va., and the USSBA Southeastern Virginia Regional in Virginia Beach, Va.  Nearly 45 bands total performed in one of these two events in the Lover’s State!
