Hopkins, Heimbecker heading to IUP on Thursday, Oct. 21

Session open to music ed majors and marching music enthusiasts

Are you in the Western Pennsylvania area? Cadets Director George Hopkins and Assistant Director Justin Heimbecker will be making a visit to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a discussion forum with music education majors, marching band members, and marching music enthusiasts.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with so many future music educators about a variety of topics that they may not deal with on a day-to-day basis in their college curriculums. For YEA!, we are in a unique position to assist in the development of these men and women, as we operate both a performing ensemble (The Cadets), as well as an association (The USSBA); this gives us a chance to offer information on quite a broad range of topics,” said Heimbecker.

Topics to be addressed in this special one-hour session include: Programming & Design for band, Teaching Life Skills through Marching Music, Managing a Program off the Field, and more.

“Essentially, we want to do all we can so that these folks go into their first job with a great, great chance of success. We strive to do our part in developing excellence in marching music, and this invitation from the IUP faculty is quite an honor,” according to Hopkins.

The session will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 in the Cogswell Music Building, Room 126. Feel free to sit in, if you’re in the area!
