Energy, excitement abound during first day of Northern States

Award Sheets: State champs named in Texas, Virginia, Tennessee

[object Object]Clear skies and a crisp fall chill in the air made for a perfect first day of the US Scholastic Band Association Northern States Championships, just one of the many headline events taking place in seven states today and tomorrow.

J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa., hosted the first of three shows in the Northern States series that ran today, and will continue tomorrow and Sunday, Nov. 7. In all, nearly 125 bands from across the Northeast will compete in the largest scholastic marching band show in America!

But all the action didn’t stay in Pennsylvania. The USSBA held three additional State Championships and bands in Virginia, Texas and Tennessee cranked it up for a shot at their state title. The team also took a new and unique event to Parlin, N.J., where ‘A’ Class bands went head to head in a prelims/finals format that included a surprise post-event critique by adjudicators. The USSBA ‘A’ Class Challenge featured nine fantastic Group A bands that performed in prelims then, based on their first score, performed in reverse order again in finals.
