The Cadets thank driver and volunteer Brad Kelly

Corps takes on additional music at rehearsal camp

It came as a complete surprise on Sunday when The Cadets honored long-time volunteer Brad Kelly for his contributions that have played a huge factor in keeping the corps on the road.

Since 2006, Kelly of Souderton, Pa., has worked behind the scenes on the corps’ transportation fleet, providing his mechanical expertise whenever needed and driving the tractor trailer to and from camps, and during stints on Summer Tour. Most recently, Kelly overhauled the corps’ 1992 bus used to transport members to and from the airport on rehearsal weekends.

“Brad is one of those volunteers you don’t see at corps’ rehearsals and events all the time, but their contributions are immense,” said Cadets Assistant Director Justin Heimbecker.

Kelly was recognized Sunday following The Cadets December rehearsal camp at Woodstown High School in Woodstown, N.J. He was presented a plaque for his dedicated service and a Cadets jacket.

A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER!

The rehearsal camp in Woodstown was the second leading into The Cadets 2011 season as the corps continued auditions for the brass and percussion sections. Several parade and encore tunes were learned along with two minutes of music for the summer program.

“We are very pleased with the progress made this weekend,” Heimbecker said. “As we head into the holidays, and prepare to return for our first camp in the New Year, the team is excited 2011 is going to be fantastic!”

The Cadets return to Woodstown Jan. 7-9 for a full weekend of rehearsals.
