The Yamaha Cup was held in the New Meadowlands Stadium in 2010. Already, the event is at half its capacity for 2011.

National Sign-up Day 2011 has transitioned into a full National Sign-up Week with 100 bands registering in just the first 48 hours to participate in a variety of US Scholastic Band Association sanctioned competitions and festivals across the country this coming fall.

“We were amazed by the initial reaction to National Sign-up Day,” said Greg Jackson in Band Relations.  “We’ve introduced a few new events and all have been well received.  We can’t wait to see what the remainder of National Sign-up Week has in store for us and the bands of the USSBA!”

“Events all across the country are filling up fast,” said Larry Harper, event manager for the USSBA.  “In particular, the Yamaha Cup is at half of its capacity, the Class A National Championships in Allentown is also very close to 50 percent capacity in only two days.  Other events trending well ahead of past years are the Virginia State Championship, Marine Corps Invitational and New England State Championships.  The New Jersey State Championships looks to be filling fast at all three sites in Old Bridge, Union and Sewell.”

The USSBA is full of promotions and excitement to celebrate the National Sign-up Week.

Band Relations Representative, Jon Swengler has been updating folks via Facebook and Twitter as the organization reaches milestones.  “It’s really exciting being on the ground floor as the season comes together.  We’ve talked to a lot of great folks about their plans for the season and the enthusiasm is wonderful.”

Jon made the announcement of Andrew Lopez of Sparta High School in Sparta, N.J., as the very first band to sign up for the season, while Sara Ossias from Southington, Conn., was the 50th band director to sign-up. Chris Whitehurst from Camden County High School in Camden County, N.C.,was the ceremonial 100th director to register.  Each of these directors will receive a great gift from the USSBA gift vault.

If you haven’t signed up yet, now’s a great time as the 150th and 200th bands will also receive gifts prizes from the USSBA Vault.
