Sparta High School takes the first band to register honor!

Prizes for 150th, 200th band to register waiting to be claimed

Congratulations to Andrew Lopez for being the first director to register his marching band for the 2011 US Scholastic Band Association fall season.  Lopez joins the other 120 groups that registered within the first week and eagerly awaits the new season to kick off.

“Our students are really looking forward to their first opportunity to perform on a national stage at the Class “A” National Championships,” Lopez said.

For the past four years, Lopez has been working with the Sparta Marching Band and has served as head director for the past three years. The Sparta High School Marching of Sparta, N.J., is home for the “Marching Spartans.”  As a band finishing as a top five in the New Jersey Championships, Group III and having gathered various caption awards at local events, the band is looking forward to building on their program success for the 2011 season, Lopez said.  March 2 was their season kick off and students learned about their program for the 2011 season.

Sparta’s show based of the story of the “Spartan 300.”

“We have some great classical/wind band literature that was arranged by members on our staff,” Lopez said.  “Given the excitement of the storyline, you can expect some wild visuals for sure!”

As the first band to register for the USSBA fall season, Lopez will receive various gifts from the USSBA vault.

Congratulations also go out to Sara Ossais from Southington High School in Connecticut for being the 50th band to sign up and Chris Whitehurst from Camden High School in North Carolina for being 100th band to register. They, along with the 150th and 200th band to sign up will receive gifts from the USSBA.
