Get your band in on the USSBA 2011 action! Fall sign-ups are going strong with some shows close to being wait-listed.

With the initial surge of sign-ups, usually the first two weeks of the US Scholastic Band Association registration process is one of the busiest times in the office.  Registration, last minute additions and revisions to the schedule all create a busy bee-hive of activity.

At the same time as shows open up, others begin closing to open registration due to reaching their maximum capacity for participation either due to scheduling or other logistical limitations.  The USSBA will keep everyone notified as events reach their capacity and the office team will be sure to guide directors to other events if their first selections are filled.

“One we have the initial sign-ups, we can see what shows are going to be fastest to fill, which also creates an interesting opportunity for other events to step in and pick up on the overflow of units who want to participate in the busy October weekends,” said Tara-Lee Bryant, manager of Local Host Relations.

As of the first few days of April, perennial shows such as the Yamaha Cup, National Championships and select State Championships are well on their way to reaching their capacities.  “We do encourage those bands that have been waiting to enroll to do so in order to guarantee their performance slots,” said Greg Jackson, USSBA band relations representative.

Jackson added, “We’re also very excited about the new events on the calendar such as the Remo Invitational at Morgan State University in Baltimore.  Initial registration has been strong for this event and we’re looking to have another full show that rounds out the schedule in the Maryland and Virginia area before the State and National Championships.”   Morgan State.jpg

The Remo Invitational is a new event for the USSBA to be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 on the campus of Morgan State University (photo to the right).  Bands from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia can have a wonderful performance opportunity on the final weekend in October in a venue that has been recently upgraded and provides an excellent showcase in the waning weeks of the season.
