Camp this weekend for The Cadets includes a LIVE Broadcast from ensemble on Sunday, May 1 for YEA! MAY DAY, plus a drum majors clinic and the colorguard returns for final auditions.

The Cadets will meet for one final rehearsal camp this weekend before they return May 14 for Move In and to kick off the summer that will very likely change their lives! And you better believe it’s going to be a very busy two days as the corps is scheduled to complete three minutes of drill, host more than 20 high school and college drum majors for a workshop, and present a LIVE BROADCAST direct from ensemble rehearsal as part of YEA! May Day on Sunday, May 1.

Camp falls during Round One of the Chase Community Giving Campaign and Youth Education in the Arts, the corps’ parent organization, is in the running to win $25,000 and up to $500,000 should the non-profit advance to Round Two. As part of that effort, The Cadets will present a LIVE Broadcast at 1:15 p.m., EST, to celebrate YEA! May Day, and all the programs of YEA! while rallying supporters to vote in Chase!

“We know it’s not easy to get to Woodstown, N.J., to hear The Cadets,” said George Hopkins, director of the corps. “So as part of YEA! May Day, we are bringing The Cadets to you! While you’re online watching the corps present some of their exciting summer program, ‘Between Angels and Demons,’ we ask you to vote for YEA! in the Chase, and invite your friends to, as well. The potential for the organization should we win is huge, but we need your help to do it!”

The LIVE Broadcast begins at 1:15 p.m., EST, and will be accessible through The Cadets web page, www.cadets.org.  Hear segments of ‘Between Angels and Demons,’ plus other select pieces in The Cadets encore repertoire. Live interviews with staff about the show concept will be held along with the very special announcement of who will be the newest inductees in the Cadets Hall of Fame.

On Saturday, April 30, The Cadets and the US Scholastic Band Association, another program of YEA!, present ‘For Drum Majors Only,’ a workshop led by former and current Cadets drum majors for high school and college aged students who are looking to serve in that role in the coming season. Registration for the workshop remains open and walk-ups are welcome, according to Eric Kitchenman, director of education for YEA!.

“This day-long workshop is ideal for current or aspiring drum majors. Conducting, communication, attitude and more are on the agenda, presented by some of the Cadets most respected and talented drum majors, past and present,” Kitchenman said.

Camp this weekend also welcomes back the colorguard that has been away as a whole since November 2010 auditions. Short rehearsal blocks for colorguard performers were held during two camps this winter, but they were not mandatory. Auditions for colorguard pick back up this weekend, according to Justin Heimbecker, assistant director of The Cadets, and as always, walk ins are welcome!
