The announcement comes just 10 days before The Cadets Move In for Spring Training in Johnstown, Pa. Seventeen Cadets applied for the scholarship that was open to members who had already marched in the corps or have obtained 2011 membership. Each scholarship submission was reviewed by the Cadets Scholarship Committee.  Committee members for 2011 were:

Dr. Edward DiCarlo, Chairman
Kathy Santo
Greg Pych
Scotty McGarry
Melissa Babalonis, Staff administrator

The Cadets Scholarship Fund is in loving memory of Susan Erben, former director of development for Youth Education in the Arts. Erben marched in the corps in 1978 and was involved with the corps administratively from 1980 to 2010. Susan spoke frequently of her wish to have a fund created for the support of members who needed assistance and although the fund was not created in her lifetime, The Cadets launched the fund in 2010 in her memory.

“Susan was committed to helping Cadets find ways to afford their summer tour fees which hampers so many talented performers from participating,” said Cadets Director George Hopkins. “This scholarship fund is just a small step the right direction to making the dream of being a Cadet happen for young men and women. We know she would be pleased these seven dedicated Cadets had a little help this season.”
