YEA! Person of the Week: Greg Jackson

Dreams to meet his grandparents in the Philippines!

Who is that fella that handles your drum corps show ticket order?
What is the background of that brass tech for The Cadets?
Who are those kids dancing in the 6th Street gallery?
What does that USSBA tabulator do in her ‘real’ life?

There are many people that make up Youth Education in the Arts, The US Scholastic Band Association, the Urban Arts Center and The Cadets. Through our feature, Person of the Week, we introduce to you the individuals behind the scenes. Their diversity and talent will amaze you!

Name:  Gregory Jackson
Age:  27
Residence:  Allentown, PA
Occupation:  Band Relations Representative, USSBA  Greg Jackson.jpg

What did you do in Drum Corps, if at all?
I never marched with a corp – just a supportive spectator :)

What did you do in marching band?
I was an assistant section leader with the Ravens marching band when I was in high school – I then marched with Towson University until they hired me on as an office administrator.

Who's your favorite music person, living or dead, real or fictional?
Schroeder from the Peanuts.  No matter what the argument was, or how different all of Charlie Brown’s friends are, they always got together when Schroeder starts playing.

What's the best meal you've eaten? What was it and where?
I love food…  A lot.  So in my mind, every meal I eat is better than the last.  So essentially every meal is the best meal I’ve ever eaten.

In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job?
Making moments happen :)

What was your first job?
I worked as a filing manager at my mom’s pediatric office.  Lots of alphabetizing.

What's the last thing you saw in the movies?
The King’s Speech.  Absolutely outstanding.

What’s your drink at Starbucks?
Grande Iced Vanilla Coffee.  Summer or winter, doesn’t matter.

How often do you prepare your own meals?
I made a New Years Resolution to cook at least 3 times a week… its.. uh.. going great so far…

What's your favorite cereal?
I alternate between Reese’s puffs and Frosted Flakes.  Sometimes when I’m living on the wild side, I’ll mix it up with a little frosted mini-wheats.

How much is too much to spend on a haircut?
Anything over $15 is pushing it.

When's bedtime?
When work is done!

Have you been to NYC? Which do you prefer, the old Times Square or the new Times Square?
A couple times... the city is a little too busy for me though.  And I’d have to say New Times Square, it’s much more inviting.

How about Broadway? What have you loved?
I haven’t seen a whole lot ON broadway, but I’ve loved every show I’ve seen.  I’m a huge Les Mis fan… and I’m dying to see this Spiderman musical.

What do you think of American Idol?
I support the idea of giving everyone an opportunity to find their voice and showcase their talent… but at the end of the day it’s a very subjective popularity contest, so I can’t really get excited for it.  I might watch it if it’s on, but I’d never take the time to search for the show.

Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction? What was the last book you read?
Fiction when I want to relax, Non-fiction when I want to be inspired.  I believe the last book I read was Harry Potter 7.

Who is your mortal enemy?
Bowser.  He just won’t take the hint.  I didn’t save that princess for nothing, stop kidnapping her!

When's the last vacation you took? Where did you go?
Over the holidays, I spent my vacation at home with family.  Sometimes just laying low is the best when the right people are around :)

Do you Facebook? What do you like about it?
Yes… I love that I can still keep up with friends regardless of how far apart we are.

Do you Twitter?
Yes, but I reserve it for comments too random and inane to post on Facebook.

And finally … If you could meet one person, dead or living, who would it be and why?
My grandparents… they live in the Philippines, so I’d really like to visit them someday while they’re still around.
