Joe Roche back on board in Fort Collins, CO

Angel and Demon Diary: Cadets daily updates from the road

IMAG0542.jpgIt’s been a great stay at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, Colorado. The school is clean, the stadium is turf, the showers are warm – it’s been ideal. The members are relieved that today is much shorter than the past two. Yesterday the corps endured four hours and 15 minutes of visual rehearsal, but the improvement with the new changes made it well worth it.

Joe Roche returned yesterday to run The Cadets’ physical training program and help out on visual staff through July 17. His military-style intensity definitely boosts the morale of the corps and pushes them to work harder than ever.

“In all the judges tapes from all the shows we’ve been at so far, do you know what the number one comment has been?” Joe asked the horns and drums this morning after their workout. “It’s ‘Wow.’”

He encouraged them to push through the tough days and not let anything go – no crooked cover downs, nobody missing step offs or going on when they’re not supposed to. Joe is a stickler for the details, and that’s what will get The Cadets to the standard of perfection they have the potential to reach this year.

It’s a fast day today – the corps was up at 7:30 a.m. and finishes ensemble at 4:00 p.m. to get ready for the show. The Cadets are on at 9:19 p.m. in Denver.

We’ve all come to take breathtaking, mountainous backdrops completely for granted around here, but sadly, today is the final day of mountains. The corps has a long haul to Nebraska tonight, and will return to Central Time.
