Design team adds brilliant new guard uniforms and much more

Angel and Demon Diary: Cadets daily updates from the road

Yesterday was an important rehearsal day for The Cadets. Since we pulled in late, the corps got a bit of a late start at 11:00 a.m., but George still managed to get almost eleven hours of rehearsal on the schedule.

The color guard added major improvements to the show by the end of ensemble last night. Thanks to Chad Duggan, Denise Dennis, and the rest of the team at Dance Sophisticates, the new uniforms are finally in, and they’re very effective. The angels are more delicate and flowing, and the demons have a harsher, darker look than the old ones.

Chelsea Bollman, The Cadets’ feature angel for much of the show, now has a glorious pair of wings for her victorious moment at the end. The design team wants the end of the show to be as brilliantly white as possible, so the guard also pulled out brand new white tarps, five feet wide by between twenty and one hundred feet long, at the end of the show. I’ve seen the show a lot of times, but last night’s run-through, gave me chills.

The Cadets will travel back to Central Time for the show in Murfreesboro tonight, so they’ll get an extra hour of rehearsal before the show and lose that hour in sleep tonight on the way to Atlanta. Tonight is another DCI Tour of Champions show. Between the small ensembles at the souvenir stands, the top eight corps’ performances, extra tunes and a mass encore, TOC shows are truly a more fun way to experience a drum corps show. The Cadets are on last at 10:20 p.m.
