The President of the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade called Jackson Memorial High School Band Director Bud McCormick today to inform him that the Jaguar Band will be representing the Mid-Atlantic Region in the 2012-2013 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
“There were more than 475 bands that applied worldwide and our Jaguar Band  will be one of only 22 bands strutting their stuff down Pasadena Boulevard,” McCormick said.
He said Tournament of Roses Parade President Sally Bixbie is sending an official letter which the Band will receive later this week to confirm today’s news. The Tournament of Roses® parade, held annually in Pasadena, California, has a 117 year history and a worldwide audience.  This annual spectacle is viewed by over 50 million Americans annually and millions more worldwide.
“Receiving an invitation to participate in the Tournament of Roses® Parade is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the students and staff alike,” said McCormick. “It’s an opportunity to represent our community on a grand scale, but it’s also a daunting task. In order to realize this dream, we’ll need to raise an additional $250,000 above and beyond our usual budget. We won’t be able to do this without support from the community.”
The Jackson Memorial Jaguar Band will be mobilizing a force of parents and other supporters to begin fundraising with the goal that every student that wants to participate can do so.
“There will be multiple events in the community to garner support, but donations are being accepted already,” said Christine Leonard, President of the Jackson Memorial Band Parents Association, who also reminded would-be donors that the Jackson Memorial Jaguar Band Parents are a 501(c)3 organization, so all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Donations may be sent to Jackson Memorial Band Parents Association, P.O. Box 800, Jackson, NJ, 08527
