Job Description

The director of development is responsible for developing and implementing the fundraising strategy for Youth Education in the Arts and all related programs. Reporting to the director of operations, the director of development is responsible for achieving the organization's development and fundraising goals. This includes, first and foremost, prospecting for new donors and increasing donor participation through creating and implementation of direct mail and annual campaigns as well as Web and email based fundraising and fundraising events, but also includes management of Donor Relationships, Planned Giving and special projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • With senior management, create and implement annual development/fundraising plan.
  • Solicit contributions.
  • Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate, foundation, alumni and individual donors, including stewardship.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and reports
  • Develop and manage the fundraising capacity of the board of directors
  • Manage and understand the donor database


Minimum bachelor’s degree with successful professional fundraising experience.


  • Three or more years of professional nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Thorough understanding of direct mail, email, phone, online, social networks, and other development tools.
  • Understanding of pageantry arts, drum corps and/or alumni affairs a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new donors.
  • Strong partnership-building skills, both internal and external.

This position is located in Allentown, PA, but telecommuting may be considered for applicants with SIGNIFICANT professional experience and a demonstrable successful record in Annual Giving, Major Gifts and/or Alumni Giving.
