Judging Coordinator Gino Cipriani explains new judging system in video

As part of the ongoing adjudicator training series, USSBA Judging Coordinator Gino Cipriani spent a few minutes recently explaining the ins and outs and philosophies behind the new A Class sheet for USSBA competitions.

The A Class criteria is exclusive to marching bands in the USSBA, and is crafted to serve the vast majority of bands who are developing their programs.

The USSBA has debuted this new judging system for A Class Bands in 2011 in order to provide adjudicators with better tools to evaluate and provide feedback for A Class bands, while allowing band directors and staff the opportunity to grow their programs with the assistance of the highest quality adjudicators from the ranks of the marching arts world.

Rich Hammond, acting director of the USSBA said, “For so many years, we’ve been using the same system for A Class and Open Class bands. With these new sheets, now the A Class bands, which represent over two-thirds of our participating schools, will be able to grow based on evaluation of their skill level and allow for continued achievement.”
