Maryland State Champions Crowned on Saturday

26 Bands from around the Maryland performed with their sights on capturing the Maryland State Championship.

Allentown, PA — On Saturday October 15, 26 bands from across the state of Maryland came together at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium to participate in the US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) Maryland State Championships.

This all-day event had bands competing in different groups based on band size. A panel of judges from around the country evaluated the bands on their musical and visual performances with each group producing a champion.

The Maryland State Champions are:

Group 1-A Perryville High School - Perryville, MD

Group 2-A North East High school North East, MD

Group 3-A Chopticon High School Morganza, MD

Group 4-A Fort Hill High School Cumberland, MD

Group 1 Open Century High School Sykesville, MD

Group 2 Open Calvert Hall College High School Baltimore, MD

Group 3 Open Great Mills High School Great Mills, MD

Group 4 Open Governor T. Johnson High School Frederick, MD

Also awarded was the prestigious Esprit de Corps Award presented by the United States Marine Corps. This award is presented to the band that best exemplifies the core values of pride, professionalism and patriotism. The 2011 Esprit de Corps Award for the Maryland State Championship goes to: Quince Orchard High School from Gaithersburg, Md.

Along with the Marine Corps Esprit de Corps award, The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps was on hand to award the first Cadets Award of Excellence. The Cadets Award of Excellence is presented to the band that has the highest achievement in the areas of creativity, excellence and overall effect. The winners of the award at the Maryland State Championship were North East High School from North East , Md and Calvert Hall College from Baltimore, MD.
