Congratulations to the Six 2011 A Class National Champions

Allentown Events Featured Competition of the Best of the Best

77 bands came together from as far south as Georgia all the way up to Massachusetts for the A-Class National Championships at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa  for two days of competition that concluded the 2011 USSBA fall marching band season. natsgear

Saturday’s competition kick off with Group II A and Lenape H.S. from Medford, NJ capturing the 2011 crown.  Runner-ups North East H.S. from North East, Md. and East Haven H.S. from East Haven, Ct. had fantastic performances to round out the top 3 for Group II.

The afternoon session began with a marathon 21 band set which started with 15 bands challenging for the Group IV A  title. The top three finished within a point of each other with Madison County H.S. from Danielsville, Ga. winning Group IV A over Passaic H.S. from Passaic, NJ. and Northern Highlands H.S. from Allendale, NJ.

The Saturday evening session continued with Elizabeth, H.S. from Elizabeth, NJ  being awarded the Group V A Championship. Rounding out the top three in Group V A are Verona H.S from Verona, NJ and Somerville H.S. from Somerville, NJ

Sunday began with overcast skies with a strong breeze that welcomed participants in Group I A competition.  Thirteen bands challenged for the tile with the top spot going to Joseph Case H.S. from Swansea, Mass. One-tenth of a point separated second and third place, with Kingsway Regionals H.S. from Woolwich Township, NJ edging out Bishop Feehan from Attleboro, Ma.

The afternoon session of the National Championships began with the largest size bands battle in the Group VI A competition. The top three produced the tightest race of the day with only five-tenths of a point separating first and third place.  New Providence from New Providence, NJ came out being awarded top prize in Group 6 A, and Jackson Memorial from Jackson, N.J. and Scotch Plains-Fanwood H.S. from Scotch Plains, NJ. claimed the runner-up positions.

Group III competition concluded the day with 21 bands gunning for the National Championship. This produced another tight race with Perkiomen Valley from Collegeville, Pa winning by four-tenths of a point over Pequannock Township from Pompton Plains, NJ. Rounding out the top three was North Warren Regional H.S. from Blairstown, NJ.

The Cadets Award of Excellence was also presented at the awards ceremonies at each of the competitive sessions.  The Award of Excellence is awarded to the band that best represent the Cadets traditions of excellence in music and visual design, overall effect with military bearing.  The 2011 Cadets Awards of Excellence were presented to:

Group II – Long Branch– Columbia, Md.

Group IV & V - Verona H.S. Verona, NJ.

Group III - Lee Davis H.S. – Mechanicsville, VA. 

Group I & VI – Bishop Feehan H.S. – Attleboro, Mass.
