"Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a drum corps"

Cadets2 members make history with first camp

As Emily Karu returned home to New Jersey from her history making weekend she posted on the Cadets2 Facebook wall, “I had the best time of my life this weekend! I may be hurting a bit and have a couple bruises but I regret none of it because every moment was worth it! I cannot wait to come back in April (after Color Guard) and be reunited with my new family!”

Emily and over 100 others are the extremely lucky and fortunate members of a very exclusive club, for only these 100 young people can ever say they were there for the inception of something very special, the very first rehearsal of Cadets2, the weekend-only, regional touring ensemble which is the sibling to the 10-time World Champion Cadets and the USSBA.

After a two day camp over the weekend of Nov. 26-27 at Upper Darby High School in Drexel Hill, Penn.,   Cadets2 is indeed a reality!

Emily and her fellow corpsmates enthusiasm is infectious!  Post after post on the corps’ Facebook page shared the same excitement:

Rachel Montañez a guard member from Long Island posted:   “I had an amazing time at auditions! I definitely got a good butt kicking, so worth it though! I can't wait for summer 2012!”

Daniel Brandt, a trumpet player from Maryland posted:  I don't think I could describe how much fun I had! I'm honored to be a part of the organization, and I'm super-eager to make progress this season!”

Stephanie Shields, a mellophone from New Jersey summed up what most of the prospective members had to say about their experience of the weekend: “I feel badly for the people who couldn't make it or simply ended up not showing for whatever reason. I just got home a half hour ago but I feel restless because I want to go back already! Definitely on my top list of my most memorable experiences in my life so far, I don't know how to begin to describe it; you have to show up to understand! SO glad I did.”

Eric Kitchenman, Director of Cadets2 said in the Nov. 28 morning staff meeting in YEA! headquarters, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a drum corps” which was met by a round of applause signifying that the work, time and effort to provide 100 or more students with a special regionalized, weekend-only Cadets experience had become a reality.

Prospective members still have the opportunity to make history as being part of the 2012 Cadets2 beginning with the next rehearsal camp on the weekend of Dec. 17-18 at a site to be announced shortly.

Eric Kitchenman continued, “We have a definite need in the brass and guard sections and while guard is on rehearsal hiatus until after the indoor season, we are encouraging anyone who has marching experience in the brass section to come and join us in December. Drummers, well we still have a few spots, but we had an incredible turn-out in that section!"

As a special promotion, the camp fee for the December camp will be discounted by 40% if paid in advance of the Dec. 17-18 camp.  You can register now at and click on Cadets2.  If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Barlow at or at 610.821.0345 ext 115.

Watch for more details to be announced about the summer of 2012, including the world premiere event of the corps in June, the summer performance schedule and announcement of the inaugural on-field production of the corps.

While Emily Karu has to wait a few months until the guard rejoins the rehearsals, she is representative of the members who are willing to give the commitment to become a part of the Cadets’ organization as they ready themselves for their turn at history.  Emily ended her post by writing, “I have already started out my own training program which includes, spinning, running and multiple stretches! Summer 2012 will be a land mark for us all and I can't wait to start!”

Join Emily and her new family at Cadets2 by registering today for the December camp.
