Sites Selected for 2012 USBands National Championships

MetLife Stadium, Annapolis and Allentown provide amazing stages

Following the recent announcement of the name change to USBands, the organization, formerly known as the USSBA, has selected three sites to be the home to the 2012 USBands National Championships which will feature Open  and A Class competition and the first-ever National Marching Band Showcase.

George Hopkins, CEO of YEA! and founder of USBands, said in announcing the sites, “We believed it to be time for a slight change in the National Championship format in order to provide bands with different performance experiences at very high level venues. As each of the National Championships has gained in popularity, we want to be able to open the experience to more bands from different regions and provide access to premiere facilities for all bands.”

As USBands launches in 2012, the selection of these Championship sites provides Open Bands a chance to include a trip to the New York City area and experience the unlimited cultural and entertainment highlights available in the region in addition to performing in the $1.6 billion home of the New York Giants, New York Jets and the 2014 Super Bowl. As well, A Class bands will have the opportunity to include visits to Washington D.C. and Baltimore as part of their trip to the Championships should they choose to do so.

Jon Swengler, band relations representative for USBands, remarked, “Both destinations remain easily accessible for the majority of our bands as part of a one-day trip, but we are now able to provide both Open and A bands an opportunity to expand upon their Championship experience.”

In announcing the first-ever National Marching Band Showcase, Rich Hammond emphasized the commitment to all levels of participation in USBands. “By committing our resources to this National Showcase, we’re dedicated to providing full service to bands of all levels, regardless whether they choose to compete or not. We intend to provide the same experience to all bands, and by creating this new type of event, we hope to attract bands from many states with the ability to perform and celebrate their achievements as members of the marching band activity.”
