It's Christmas in Ohio

Perry, Ohio has provided perfect weather and facilities to set The Cadets up for success at their first show tonight

It’s a show day! The Cadets have been rehearsing in Perry, Ohio for the past couple of days; the weather has been perfect, and the facility is quite impressive. This campus houses the high school, middle school and elementary school, and you can see a nuclear power plant behind the side-two endzone of the stadium. Lake Eerie is only a 2.6-mile jog away, though unfortunately the corps won’t get to see much more than the stadium.

Yesterday, George let the members sleep in until 9:00 a.m. due to a scheduling conflict with another event in the stadium. This was a welcome change, although it was a little odd to eat lunch at 3:00 and dinner at 10:00.

The corps has been working to get their show as clean as possible, while the staff has been making sure everything behind the scenes is ready to run as smoothly as possible. The entire instructional and admin teams met on the field during lunch yesterday to figure out how to get the props on the field and in the right positions. All hands are on deck this year to get the corps on and off the field; it’s the less-glamorous side of the job, but all have been more than willing to help out.

The color guard uniforms arrived yesterday (well, the colorful part of them), so the guard looked like glimmering Christmas gifts amidst the cream and maroon corps uniforms in the ensemble run-through last night—photos to come soon!

As George mentioned in an earlier post, the corps is ending the show about a minute short of the final product for the first couple of shows. At this stage in the game, it’s better that the staff and members take their time; Cadet endings tend to be a safety hazard for the first week or so.

The corps was up at 7:00 this morning, and they’re in marching rehearsal now until an early lunch at 10:45.

Also, I got a chance to run to Lake Eerie and back yesterday, and I was surprised at how pretty it is. Here's a photo!
