Storms led to early departure from WCU

The Cadets splashed through rehearsal until 7:00 yesterday

The Cadets finished out day three at Western Carolina University yesterday with more rain. After another morning with the clinic students, a torrential downpour slammed the stadium at 1 p.m. The Cadets and high school students paused visual rehearsal to run for cover, just as I was walking up into the stands to film my daily update.

After a half hour or so, the rain was back to a manageable shower, so the visual staff told the corps to head back to the field. About an inch of water sat on the field, and The Cadets splashed through it in their rain gear and soggy shoes. Wet silks rippled through the air as the color guard muscled through rehearsal.

The rain continued on and off all day, and at 3:30, George made the call that we would end rehearsal at 7:00 instead of 9:00 and push our departure time up. This took away some time from sectionals and ensemble, but it made much more sense to begin our long drive to Indianapolis earlier to make up that time today.

The corps convened in ensemble at 6:45 and did a run-through of the show to finish out the day. Then everyone enjoyed pizza and bakery cupcakes (generously donated by Phil and Lori Czekaij to celebrate their twin daughters’ birthday). We left Cullowhee, NC at 9:00 p.m. and arrived in Indianapolis at 5:55 a.m., just in time for a beautiful sunrise.
