Mission Accomplished: Cadets2 Soar to Conclude First Season

Initial Class of C2 Members and Staff Finish Successful Year

By all accounts, the inaugural season of Cadets2 could not have gone much better. The proof was in the cheers of the crowd, the tears in the eyes of the members and staff, and the sense of accomplishment by all as they left the field at Navy & Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis at the DCA World Championships on Sunday evening.

"I've become such a better person since joining C2," said baritone player Ken Gaughran. "Thank you to everyone who was involved behind the scenes or instructing; it was a life-changing experience I will never forget."

The corps, which is barely more than 10 months old as of the World Championship, brought The Cadets' style and persona to the DCA landscape. Launch set the tone for the entire season, as the members performed at a level that impressed long-time drum corps fans as well as those new to the activity.

Holding on to their fifth-place overall finish in the World Championship Finals, one of the highlights was a third-place finish in the percussion caption.

Here is a recap of the final placements:

Open Class Finals - Annapolis, Md

George Hopkins, CEO of YEA!, the parent organization of Cadets2, said after the weekend, "They made me cry. Pretty amazing what Rich Hammond, Melissa Barlow and the team have done. And the kids are just fabulous." George Hopkins had a remarkable weekend as well, being inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame at a ceremony held during the weekend's festivites in Annapolis.

After a few weeks off, Cadets2 will begin preparations for the Cadets2: Season 2 in November. Members interested in participating should visit cadets2013.org for details and plan for the first camp, November 24-25. Stay tuned to the Cadets2 website and Facebook page for details and updates.
