Open Nationals: Championship Recap

A hundred bands and thousands of students; one championship venue

For the second time this season, USBands brought tens of thousands of band students into MetLife Stadium, this time for a huge, two-day championship. One hundred bands competed for their respective class national titles, and it was truly a spectacular line-up of talent in the marching arts.

The concourse buzzed with activity, lined with USBands merchandise and recruiting tables for The Cadets and Cadets2, the US Marines Corps and the US Army.

“I was completely blown away by the volunteers at MetLife on Saturday and Sunday,” said USBands Volunteer Coordinator Iris Heady. “So many came earlier or stayed later than they originally said, and everyone was so willing to help.”

“It’s an amazing thing to be able to provide this experience for thousands of kids and their parents,” CEO George Hopkins said. “When you’re setting it all up, it’s easy to take MetLife for granted, but to look at their faces when they’re on that field is truly special. The raw emotion and excitement reminds us what is truly important and why we do all that we do.”

And so, the 2012 season draws to a close. Team USBands would like to thank everyone involved and all those who overcame great obstacles to join us this weekend. Congratulations to all seniors whose competitive marching band experience has drawn to a close.

It’s been a great season, and we look forward to making 2013 even better.
