Get to Know Us: Rich Hammond, Director of Drum Corps and Performing Ensemble Operations

rich.jpgWhat did you do in Drum Corps?
-I marched in some smaller corps in the Early 80's
-Marched Snare in the Reading
 Buccaneers and Crossmen from Delaware County Pennsylvania.
-Taught the Crossmen from 1989 to 1996.
-Westshoremen, Glassmen,
-Program Coordinator & Percussion Arranger of the Reading Buccaneers
-Director of C2

What did you do in marching band?
-I was never in a marching band until I aged out of Drum Corps. I was in West Chester University's Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band.
-Percussion Coordinator at North Penn for 17 years.
-Freelance arranger
-Indoor arranger

Who's your favorite music person, living or dead, real or fictional?
Pat Metheny/Clifford Brown

What's the best meal you've eaten? What was it and where?
Ribeye at The Red Rooster

In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job?
I've spent the last year or so as the director of USBands. This past summer I had the honor of being the director of Cadets2 and the privilege of working on the admin team with Melissa Barlow and Matt Hinchcliff. I was recently appointed the Director of Drum Corps and Performing Ensemble Operations of YEA!

What was your first job?
Newspaper Boy. I delivered the Philadelphia Bulletin.  

What's the last thing you saw in the movies?
Some Batman Movie 

Do you give money to panhandlers?
Every now and then.

Whats your drink at Starbucks?
Caffe Latte w/ two extra shots

What's your drink at the local bar?
Tanqueray and tonic w/ lime

How often do you prepare your own meals?
4 to 5 times a week

What's your favorite cereal?
No cereal…

What's hanging above your sofa?
A blank wall. Or, as I would like to say - blank potential.

How much is too much to spend on a haircut?

When's bedtime?
11:00 to 12:00

Have you been to NYC? Which do you prefer, the old Times Square or the new Times Square?
New is crazy. Lots of energy and lots of fun.

How about Broadway? What have you loved?
A few. I loved
Wicked and In The Heights

What do you think of American Idol?
Committed to one season. Very produced. Very 'Merican
