YEA! Seeking Bookkeeper

emptydeskYouth Education in the Arts, located in downtown Allentown, is seeking a bookkeeper with at least one year of experience.

The candidate must posses effective technical knowledge related to work assignments and a mindset focused on improving the work flow within the accounting department and throughout the organization.

Excellent organizational, problem-solving, critical/analytical-thinking, written- and oral-communication, interpersonal and computer skills are also required.

The candidate must demonstrate an understanding and proper application of accounting fundamentals. Accounting experience with QuickBooks is preferred as well as ability to learn and work between multiple ancillary software packages.

Non-profit experience is a plus, and an interest in the performing arts, school music programs, dance or other such activities could be of great benefit, as the office environment can be very active during seasonal programs, and work can expand over the fall and during other special events.

This position is pays at a competitive rate based on experience. This is a permanent position and may require hours outside the traditional work day. We are a non-profit that works with passion and commitment to the youth and arts we serve.

NOTE: If possible, we hope to find someone with a love for and interest in marching band, drum corps or the world of pageantry. We have found that interest and understanding of our programs assist all staff in doing the best of all possible jobs. Perhaps your son or daughter marched in band, or you were in the color guard, or perhaps you are just a fan. Granted, our work in finance is real work. But the days at events, the excitement of the band season, and the day-to-day challenges seem better received and enjoyed when one appreciates the programs and services we provide.

This position will report directly to the senior accountant and the CFO of Youth Education in the Arts.

Job duties may include:

  • Accounts Payable (as per the Accounts Payable procedures)
  • Process & enter vendor bills
  • Cash disbursements
  • Process credit card bills & debit card transactions
  • Accounts Receivable (as per the Accounts Receivable procedures)
  • Process USBands invoices
  • Process cash receipts (includes checks, online deposits, online donations, wire transfers, credit card deposits)
  • Enter deposits from the merchandising system
  • Purchasing
  • Assign & track all purchase order numbers
  • Create and update a purchase order log to track open and closed purchase orders
  • Month-end closing (as per the Month-end Closing Schedule)
  • Enter all financial information into the accounting software
  • Enter journal entries as requested, to include payroll
  • Account analysis
  • Ensure the Accounts Receivable Aging reconciles to the general ledger
  • Ensure the Accounts Payable Aging reconciles to the general ledger
  • Reconcile Prepaid Expenses & provide appropriate supporting documents to the Staff accountant
  • Reconcile Deferred Revenues & provide appropriate supporting documents to the Staff Accountant
  • Monitor and analyze inconsistencies and communicate them to the Staff accountant
  • Other duties as assigned
