January Rehearsal Report

An update on Les Mis and the corps' progress

Cadets2 spent this past Saturday and Sunday back at South Mountain Middle School, combing through some of the music of Les Mis, as well as the parade tune, "Chester," and a lively encore piece, "Live and Let Die."

katyconduct.jpgIn ensemble rehearsal, the hornline performed "On My Own," the ballad to this year's show. The brass also spent time learning part of the opener to their 2013 program, which will include three famous pieces from the musical: "Look Down," "At the End of the Day" and "I Dreamed a Dream." This music hasn't been released for the public yet, so look forward to recordings at future winter/spring rehearsals!

In the meantime, you can check out this video, featuring a bit of "On My Own," as well as a quick update from second-year member Katy Boggs.

The members of C2 were also fitted for their uniforms this year, which will be cream and maroon -- the traditional Cadets drum major uniform and the intended uniform for the corps since its conception.

It's a special experience, zipping up the historic uniform for the first time, with the Holy Name patch on the sleeve and 79 years of Cadets tradition behind it. These uniforms will carry the corps through many great and memorable performances.

Cadets2 spots are filling up, but Director Rich Hammond is still encouraging students to audition. "This weekend was great. We filled up the trumpet section, and the battery is loaded," he said. "But we could still use a few more good mellophone players and some low brass."

If you might be interested, come check it out! Cadets2 is a welcoming group of young people who love performing and have a great time together.
