Cadets Seeking Web Content Intern

Media Team, Summer 2014

socialmediasticks_crop.pngThe Cadets are looking for a for a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in writing, reporting and social media to complete the media team for the 80th-Anniversary tour.

The Web Content Intern, or "Tour Correspondent," will work closely with The Cadets’ video manager in documenting and reporting daily news from the road.

He or she must possess strong communication skills, have an understanding of brand standards and marketing, enjoy working collaboratively, and hold a deep commitment to music and youth as well as creativity. The ideal candidate would also have experience traveling with a drum corps, though this is not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Tour with The Cadets from June 1 through August 9 (start date somewhat negotiable)
  • Write daily updates about the corps’ activities and any interesting news from the road for The Cadets’ website
  • Collaborate with video manager and photographer to create unified, well-rounded media coverage of The Cadets’ summer tour
  • Creatively brainstorm and write new, compelling story ideas about the members/staff/volunteers of The Cadets or different aspects of the drum corps experience
  • Interview members, staff and volunteers to create compelling content
  • Update The Cadets’ Twitter feed several times daily with engaging content
  • Post content on The Cadets’ Facebook page as appropriate


Qualifications

  • Course work in journalism, communications, writing, marketing, or a related field
  • Ability to manage projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Exceptional writing skills, yet able to tell a story in 140 characters or less
  • Passion for/fluency in social media platforms, tools, and best practices; strong sense of professionalism and understanding of social media etiquette
  • Strong team player but comfortable working independently
  • Must have smart phone capable of posting to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.
  • Knowledge of the drum corps activity and willingness to work well in spite of challenges or less-than-ideal environments, at times
  • Positive and professional
  • Photography skills a huge plus

Compensation
Course credit and a small weekly stipend will be discussed based on the candidate's experience, education and abilities.
