Cadets Forced to Cancel Day in Buffalo, NY

Heavy rain prediction for the entire day cancels clinic and 4-hour stadium rehearsal

After back-and-forth discussions, George Hopkins, director of The Cadets and CEO of Youth Education in the Arts, has asked Jack Gaylord, Jr., promoter of the DCI Buffalo show and a friend of drum corps, to cancel The Cadets' clinic and rehearsal scheduled for Thursday, June 27 at Eric Community College and Rich Stadium.

According to Hopkins, “The forecast calls for rain from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Close to three inches of rain is expected. We will be unable to do much of anything, and clinic students will not have much of an experience. Likewise, the trade-off for this free event – The Cadets' use of the stadium – looks improbable due to the severe weather.

Hopkins continued, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who was planning to attend, but with the weather, this would not be a very good experience for anyone involved. A storm or two forecast would be one thing, but we are looking at heavy rain, thunderstorms and flood warnings.

"Some folks may be disappointed, but we believe this is a sensible decision based upon the very real probability that we will be unable to get outside, and we would not be able to conduct a reasonable clinic trapped side-by-side in such a limited space."

Following the performance this evening at Gateway High School, The Cadets will return to Hampton High School near Pittsburgh where the corps will rehearse Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. Ensemble rehearsal, weather permitting, will be from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Cadets will return to Buffalo on August 5 for the Buffalo Tournament of Champions show, and The Cadets' rehearsals that day will be open to anyone who would like to come by.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you in August.
