The Cadets, USBands, and Texas

A request from George Hopkins to Cadets Nation

The Cadets come to Texas each year. Usually we perform four to five times each summer in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. We love it!

We have staff members from Texas, members from Texas, alumni from Texas and fans from Texas.

We will be returning this December for our second round of Texas Auditions.

And for a number of years, we have been managing marching band events through USBands in Texas. We have had good times, bad times, and some in between, as we move from place to place, learning the culture and needs of the great state of Texas.

We have bettered our program and service, and we are beginning to contribute to the Texas band world. Indeed, I will be traveling down for a weekend or two myself throughout the fall, and I am looking forward to it.

As the fall marching season begins, we are planning a number of events in Texas.

Each weekend we need assistance, but one day when we could really use Cadets fans and friends is October 5.

We are managing 5 events in 5 different cities, and, ideally, each event would have at least 10 Cadets/USBands team members on site.

So...

I am reaching out for some help.

What do you get for giving us a day? A T-shirt of course, a handshake, some food and our very sincere thanks. But most importantly, when we get the chance to manage these events and do good things for band directors, we are helping, just a little, in the fulfillment of our organization's mission: Supporting young people on the road to magnificence.

Texas2012_Sox_guard.jpgBand is awesome, drum corps is awesome, and these kids are awesome.

I have promised my team that I will have 15 folks for them for the 5th. Most of the shows have 20 bands, so that’s about a five- to six-hour event.

So wherever you are, if you can assist, drop me a line, and I will have our volunteer coordinator contact you.

What will you be doing?

➢ Assisting in the management of the show
➢ Assisting in the merchandise sales efforts on the concourse
➢ Helping us provide great customer service to bands and adjudicators
➢ And lots of other fun stuff

So write me at hopkins@yea.org.

I will get back to you ASAP, and like I said, we will do all we can to make this happen for you and the kids in these great bands!

Thanks, and Happy Fall! It’s here.
