Texas Auditions This Weekend

The Cadets to hold free auditions in 3 locations in the Lone Star State

In preparation for the 2014 drum corps season, The Cadets will hold informal auditions at three sites in Texas on the weekend of December 13-15, 2013.

Cadexas_crop.jpgThe Cadets' Texas Auditions are open to all brass players, percussionists and colorguard members who are interested in marching with The Cadets.

This is a relaxed, friendly, low-key environment. Just come as you are, ready to learn!

*Important note: Auditionees are asked to please bring their own instrument/ equipment.

Purpose

In earlier discussions about 2014 Texas Auditions, there was mention of a more extensive rehearsal, but as it stands, this weekend is simply about the audition.

If you want to be a Cadet, or are thinking about being a Cadet, this is an excellent way to audition, ask questions, meet a few people from The Cadets, and decide if you would like to take the next step — attending an audition camp in NJ in December or January, so that you can secure a spot.

There is no fee associated with the Texas Audition, and we recommend that auditionees arrive as close to the start time as possible. Once the auditions are complete, the team will move on to the next location.

Audition Material

Brass players, please come prepared with a 1- to 2.5-minute solo or étude. Be sure to perform both a technical as well as lyrical material. This will allow our brass instructor to evaluate you based on your initial performance and ability to respond to feedback.

Battery percussionists, please come prepared with a solo or music excerpt (e.g., marching band show music) that shows off your technical abilities as a drummer. This will allow our drum instructor to work with you one-on-one and evaluate you based on your initial performance and ability to improve based on his feedback.

Front ensemble percussionists, please come prepared with a solo or music excerpt that shows off your technical abilities as a mallet percussionist with both two- and four- mallet techique. This will allow our instructor to evaluate you based on your initial performance and ability to improve based on feedback.

Colorguard members, dress comfortably and come prepared to work! Our caption supervisor, Eric Babula, will be taking you through some of The Cadets' flag and weapon technique. Auditionees will be evaluated based on their technical abilities and ability to learn and improve.

Brass and percussion auditions will be conducted in the order in which auditionees arrive. Musicians are asked to please arrive during the time allotted for Registration but may leave once their audition is complete.

However, colorguard auditionees should plan to be there for the entire 4-hour block if possible, as they will be working together on equipment and dance technique.

At the conclusion of each audition, the caption supervisor will provide constructive feedback and an honest assessment of the student's standing with the corps.

Auditionees who make The 2014 Cadets Hornline and Drumline will be asked to attend the January rehearsal weekend in New Jersey. Successful colorguard auditionees will be invited to rehearsal in April.
