YEA! CEO Agrees to 4-Year Contract Extension

Hopkins to continue as Cadets Director & CEO

George_newmug.jpegJust a few days into 2014, Michael Kehoss, Board of Directors Chairman for Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!) has announced that George Hopkins, CEO of YEA! and Director of The Cadets, has signed a new, four-year contract extension that will run through 2017.

In announcing the contract, Kehoss said, "We are thrilled to insure that George will be leading YEA! for the coming years. Mr. Hopkins has been at the helm since the early 1980s, and it is pretty amazing to us all that he keeps the pace he does. Indeed, the YEA! Board encourages growth, and it is clear to us all that George's leadership and the great work of the YEA! team continues to allow our organization to expand its program offerings to serve more and more young people locally, regionally and nationally."

When asked about the extension, Hopkins said, "I am thrilled that the board agreed to the most recent extension. There is really no place I would rather be, and the truth be known, I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to stay with YEA! for many, many years to come."

Mr. Kehoss continued, "The recent additions of Cadets2 and Cadets Winter Percussion, as well as the expansion and development of the Urban Arts Center, are clear examples that YEA! continues to expand its reach while pushing for higher levels of excellence. And at the same time, we are thrilled to continue to offer The Cadets for 80-plus years and the numerous events managed by USBands. It is quite a spectacular portfolio of which we are all very proud."

"As proud as we all are regarding our accomplishments, we have much more to do," Hopkins said. "We would love to extend the band program, we are just beginning to offer effective programming for the local youth in Allentown, and of course, being able to be a part of The Cadets is an absolute joy. Where else can you see excellent teaching, learning and performance? I love it!"

George Hopkins has served as The Cadets' director since September 1982 and as Chief Executive Officer of YEA! since its foundation in 1990. Hopkins holds a BA in secondary education and an MA in non-profit management. He has been with The Cadets and YEA! for a part of five decades. He is also a member of the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame and The Cadets Hall of Fame. He has been a member of the DCI Board of Directors since 1982 and the DCI executive committee from 1983-1999 and 2005-2013.
