Marching Band Design Workshop w/ Cadets Director

George Hopkins & Larry Markiewicz host upcoming workshops in CT & NJ

A couple of weeks ago, the Marching Band Design Workshop planned at Edison HS became the victim of the snowiest winter in recent history. USBands and The Cadets have rescheduled the N.J. workshop for this Sat., March 1 at 10 a.m. at Woodbridge HS in Woodbridge, N.J.

One of USBands' many goals is to assist directors and their teams in making excellent choices as they prepare for the 2014 marching band season. We strive to provide opportunities to benefit the various aspects of scholastic music programs.

Questioning your musical arrangement? Have a visual concept, but not sure where to go from there? Everyone in this activity has ideas they just don't quite know how to bring to life! We invite directors to bring your ideas for 2014 with you! Attendees of both sessions will be encouraged to share ideas in group discussions. As time allows, Hopkins will also be happy to speak with staff members privately.

Immediately following this clinic, directors are invited to take in the USBands Indoor Percussion & Color Guard event which is being hosted by Woodbridge HS.

As leader of The Cadets’ creative team since 1987, Hopkins has experienced his share of both success and failure. In this three-hour constructive clinic, he will offer his experiential advice, as well as answers to these and many other questions:

  • How many people should be on the design team?
  • Does story matter?
  • What are judges really looking for?
  • Where do great ideas come from?

Ten World Championships and 26 years have provided much insight on both the dos and the don’ts of field performance, so don’t miss this great opportunity to gain a new perspective. Working with groups from all over the country has also given Hopkins a unique perspective of how to make your programs enjoyable, educational, and successful!

Remember, these workshops are FREE to all USBands constituents! Just sign up and show up. We can’t wait to dive into show design with you.
