Percussion Caption Supervisor/Battery Arranger

There's nothing more fulfilling to percussionist Colin McNutt than running into former students who have made great lives for themselves. Knowing that he has played a small part in their success and happiness keeps him motivated as he shares his talents with young performers across the country.

Colin is in his seventh year as The Cadets' Percussion Caption Supervisor, handling a considerable portion of the drumline's daily instruction. He came to the Cadets with a lengthy marching and drum corps resume, including his most recent position as Director of Percussion and Arranger for the Madison Scouts.

Colin has a strong history in percussion instruction. He arranged music and instructed for Star of Indiana, the Glassmen and the Crossmen. He also took his talents to the stage, writing and teaching for the popular production, Blast!.

Before his teaching career began, Colin started marching drum corps in 1988, his junior year in high school, with the Boston Crusaders. He aged out with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 1992.

Colin has made a career out of his passion for music and percussion, while also completing his double major in music education and classics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1998. When not instructing drum corps, he conducts clinics for Avedis Zildjian Co., REMO, Inc., and Vic Firth. He also writes music for marching bands in the United States and Japan.
